Library makes a splash with Oceans of Possibilities program

Swim on over to the Jefferson County R.J. Bailar Public Library this summer for great activities and resources centered around the fun theme of “Oceans of Possibilities.” Our local library is participating in this national Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) to bring exciting and interesting resources to Jefferson County. Library Director Natalie Binder and her staff have put on their squid thinking caps and set up special book collections with activity stations around the library that allow patrons to explore, get creative and learn. The CSLP program is intended to empower participating libraries to foster community by collaborating with them to create inclusive, literacy-based enjoyable programs for all ages with a unified theme, shared resources and professional support.
Be sure to plan your visit to the library soon! A wide variety of ocean-themed reading materials are waiting for you, along with fun, interactive stations.
- Dig your fingers into the kinetic sand box for sensational yet grit-free fun that still leaves your hands clean and ready to flip through books.
- Contribute to community art at the coloring table, which features a large and busy beach scene ready for your artistic touch.
- Browse books about life on the shore as you examine fascinating and beautiful coastal creature specimens at the light table.
- Explore underwater habitats with resources and hands-on stack-ables at the Build a Coral Reef station.
- Be mesmerized by the fish tank and color your own fish shape to display at the check-out desk.
- As you read, read, read all summer long, fill out your Oceans of Possibilities book list. Everyone who turns it in at the end of the summer, will receive a prize! Plus, each list will then be entered into a drawing for an even bigger prize, to be awarded at the library's end-of-summer party.
