Jefferson County local Kade McLeod, age 11, recently helped the SGSA 11U Sharks win the Silver Bracket Championship in the Southeast Championship baseball tournament in Moultrie, Ga., on Saturday, June 20. After a 2-2 start to the tournament, the Sharks put together an overwhelming 20-0 victory over the Pines 11U Spells team to win the Silver Championship. McLeod went 1-1 at the plate with two RBIs and three walks for the Sharks, who have now amassed an 11-6-1 record.
Sharks went out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning before adding four more runs in the second. Then the Sharks went on an 11-run rampage in the third inning. The game was called after three innings.
McLeod, who wears jersey #7 plays third base, left field and pitcher for the Sharks. The SGSA 11U Sharks is a travel/tournament baseball team based out of Valdosta, Ga. The Sharks' roster includes players from Tifton, Ga. to Lake City, Fla.
McLeod will be going into the sixth grade at Florida State University School, where he hopes to be playing baseball for the Seminoles next spring. Kade can't wait to be a Seminole since his favorite team is FSU.
Kade is the son of Matthew and Chasity McLeod.
