Three local races will be determined this autumn, as candidates contest for positions as County Commissioners and on the School Board. Preceding the Primary Election on Aug. 18, a political forum is planned for July 21 at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
During the forum, candidates for contested positions as County Commissioners District 4 and School Board Districts 2 and 3 will be permitted an allotted time to deliver their message to voters. The candidates may also allow audience participation during their time if they choose. The forum, which is sponsored by the Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of commerce, will be chaired by Ron Cichon, who has been representing the Chamber at these events since their start in 1976.
Candidates who are currently unopposed will not be invited to participate in the forum. Seats on School Board Districts 2 and 3 will first appear on the Primary ballot, while County Commissioners District 4 will only appear on the General ballot.
Candidates who have been invited to appear at the forum include the following:
County Commissioners District 4 (General Ballot)
Austin Hosford (R)
Lois Howell-Hunter (D)
School Board District 2
Jamia Bradley
Donnie Burdick
Miranda Gillyard Gilley
School Board District 3
Brenda Bentley Wirick
Shirley Alexander Washington
The Tuesday, July 21 political forum will begin at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
