Over 13 percent of American households suffer from food insecurity. That makes up around 18 million people who struggle with access to food or who do not know where their next meal will come from. This is especially prevalent in rural areas, particularly with low-income families. According to Feeding America, rural areas make up less than two-thirds of all U.S. counties, but nine out of ten counties with the highest food insecurity rates in America are rural.
