Local parade and program honor Martin Luther King Jr.

On Jan. 15, 1929, the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. began. Ninety-five years later, his dream of equality, voice for justice, action to advance civil rights and example of non-violent pursuit of change continue to inspire the ongoing efforts to address discrimination in our country.
As the nation marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year on his actual birthday, Jan. 15, 2024, events in Jefferson County also honored his legacy. Our community's annual parade, organized this year by the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, Inc. and Monticello Consistory #331, PHA, began its route on South U.S. Highway 19 at 11 a.m., looped around the Jefferson Count
