“You have been flushed.”
That is the greeting that will be given to some Jefferson County locals this month along with a special porcelain decorative piece for their yard.
All in good fun and for a good cause, a toilet painted blue and decorated with a Rotary emblem, will be circulating as part of the fundraiser for the Monticello Rotary club during the months of April and May. To continue the good work Rotary does in the community, they decided this would be a great way to raise money.
“Rotarians have always had a great sense of humor and this is a 'fun' fundraiser because of its originality and the fact that no one has to buy an over-priced fundraiser item they don’t need,” said Treasurer Frank Stone.
Those who find a toilet at their location get a sheet of paper along with it. It explains the fundraiser and that the “Royal Throne” will be theirs to enjoy for the next 24 hours. For a cost of $20, the potty will be removed the next day; for $25 it can be passed on to a person of their choice the next day; or for $30 they can add the “Potty Protection Plan,” which means they are safe from getting the potty back through the end of May.
The Rotary club kicked off this April/May fundraiser by “Flushing” their District Governor on April 14 during his visit to the club.
Monticello Rotary has been active in the community for more than 39 years and raises money to build handicap ramps; send children to 4-H camp; sponsor a child to attend a camp for the physically challenged; provide Thanksgiving food baskets to senior citizens; give scholarships to local seniors graduating high school; and instituted a Veteran Banner program to honor local residents and family members who serve our country.
