Two local athletes will be joining a national softball program, working in the coaching arena. The Lady Dukes – Davis 16U team out of Tallahassee is a part of a national program that operates under the “Lady Dukes” name.
“Being a national program brings a level of credibility,” said Dukes Davis 16U Coach Cassie Davis. “As part of the Lady Dukes organization, we are held to a certain standard that some other organizations aren't. We're almost like a franchise. That can be a real advantage for the girls who play for us if they are trying to get to the next level. We like to bring in local girls who are playing, or have played, at the Division One level to work with the younger girls.”
Former Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) Lady Warrior and Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Lady Owl, Abbie Morgan, will be assisting the Lady Dukes Davis 16U team with potential player evaluations when they hold tryouts in February. Morgan graduated from FAU and currently works in Gov. DeSantis' office, in Tallahassee. She is the daughter of Mitchell and Susan Morgan, of Monticello.
Former Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirl and current Lady Argonaut at the University of West Florida, Halie Wetherington will be joining the Lady Dukes Davis 16U coaching staff in the summer of 2023.
“We are very excited that [Halie] will be joining our staff,” said Coach Davis. “She has a tremendous work ethic and she will be a great asset to us.” Currently, Wetherington is an outfielder and pitcher for the Lady Argonauts. She is the daughter of Sam and Michelle Wetherington, of Madison.
The Lady Dukes Softball Davis 16U program will be holding tryouts in order to fill a few remaining roster slots for the team. The tryouts will take place on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m., at Tom Brown Park – TFPSA Field, 501 Easterwood Dr., in Tallahassee, Fla.
