Jefferson County Emergency Management (JCEM) and Director Paula Carroll hosted the agency's annual “Build A Bucket” event on Saturday morning, Feb. 22, in front of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO), the community was invited to come out to learn more about the oncoming hurricane season.
Several area agencies and businesses were on-hand with booths set-up with information, literature and giveaways all in helping area residents explore what it takes to be prepared.
Vendors and volunteers for this event included the Florida Department of Health and SWAT, 2nd Chance 4 Pets, Apalachee Regional Planning Council, Jefferson Somerset K-12 and Principal Cory Oliver, School Board Superintendent Marianne Arbulu, Mosquito Control, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Monticello Police Department, JCSO, Big Bend Crime Stoppers, American Red Cross, Emergency Preparedness Initiative, National Weather Service, Jefferson County Young Boyz To Men Mentoring Program, Forestry Service, Jefferson County Fire Rescue, Florida Department of Children and Family Services, Community Emergency Response Team and the Drop In Center/Going Places.
JCEM, JCSO and other volunteers filled five-gallon buckets with much-needed supplies, such as tarps, flashlights, water and such; and the Truth Gathers Victorious Church donated food items.
Other donors included CarQuest, Swann's Insurance, Monticello Dentistry, Farm Bureau Agent Abby Godwin, the BP fuel station, Tractor Supply, Tri-County Electric Company, Pizza Hut, Bari's Liquors, Costco, Big Bend Tire, Trophy Outfitters, Super 8 Motel, the Lamont Days Inn and Jefferson Farmers Market.
