I'd like to begin today by sending my prayers to all Floridians , that we have a healthy and speedy recovery from this foreign virus that has so greatly affected all of us. My best wishes to everyone and their families during the months ahead.
That being said brings me to the point of my letter.
It sincerely troubles me to see such ridiculous initiatives on the future ballots such as the legalization of recreational narcotics and the banning of legally owned firearms, but nobody, not one person has put forth a proposal to expand dental insurance for the disabled, nor expand truly affordable medical insurance for the working poor who cannot afford these ridiculous cobra style plans that employers offer.
It seems to me that rather than save lives and do something truly needed, we are focused on radical politics.
I would like to see, under a hopefully more moderate regime than his predecessor , Mr Scott, our new Governor, Mr Desantis, pass legislation that would do just that and get much needed help to many thousands of our fellow citizens who are struggling to survive without it.
Those who are truly disabled and have years of documents to support their cases are NOT committing fraud, nor are they "lazy", nor did they choose to be born the way they are. Nor are those who must work tirelessly to bring home a paycheck that covers the bills, but leaves absence of room for ever rising healthcare costs.
With an improved National Economy and our focus shifted away from providing for the illegal immigrant, and funding radical fringe style initiatives, there is no reason that such a measure could not be funded and brought to life. It is only by choice that we have failed to do so.
Dental care is fundamentally a very important health issue as bad teeth can lead to stroke, infectious diseases and even death. Just as important as it is to provide lifesaving and affordability of quality medical care to those who work hard everyday but must be forced to do without to keep their lights on or groceries in the refrigerator.
We should NOT be simply yanking people's teeth as they go bad and forcing them onto the soup diet or to live with gingivitis or infection because they are not economically viable in the eyes of some. That is draconian and medieval at best. Nor should we be forcing single working parents or adults through no fault of their own cannot pay ridiculous monthly premiums to accept terrible plans and high deductibles or live on a wing and a prayer.
So the next time we consider what to bring to the ballot in 2020 or even 2022. Lets consider putting a silent majority of Florida FIRST, BEFORE we even think to rehash age old and already rejected far flung agendas.
Thank you , and Godspeed to all in this period of recovery ahead.
