This summer was full of activity for me and I really enjoyed it. It has gone by so quickly. Here are a few activities I did this summer.
During the summer, one of the highlights for me is that we went to Wakulla Springs. Some of our friends from Georgia came down and went with us. We swam, jumped into the water from the two-story platform and had a picnic lunch on the beach. Then we went on a very exciting boat tour down the Wakulla River. A fun fact is that we saw eight manatees, two humongous alligators, and a few alligator babies. We also saw some interesting birds and a few turtles. Everything that day was so exciting. I hope that someday you can go there and have fun just like I did.
Another exciting thing that happened this summer was that I won a drawing with the Monticello News for four tickets to Wild Adventures. When I went, my whole family came and a friend from Canada. There was a flag raising before the park opened and then we got in and enjoyed everything. We had a lot of fun! After an hour or two of rides, we had lunch and then went to the water park. We also went to two shows. The Harlem Globetrotters were doing a show and I got called up on stage to steal the ball from Scooter, one of the basketball players. Then we went to a show called Tiger Tales and I got to feed a steak to a 600 pound tiger! I was very lucky that day to get chosen both times! I want to thank the Monticello News for giving me the chance to win those tickets and make my summer more special than it would have been.
Another exciting thing that happened during the summer is that I got to go tour the Wirick-Simmons house. Some neat things about it is that two of the couches in one of the rooms were owned by Napoleon Bonaparte’s nephew. They were donated to the house. Another neat thing is that there is a doll upstairs that is a replica of one they used during the Civil War to smuggle medicine through the Union line to the Confederates. Another fact that’s hard to take in is that everything on display in the house was donated! I hope to be a docent there someday. I advise that you go take a tour when they are open.
Now the summer is over, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t still have fun and play. It’s always exciting to know that you’re going to get to have another summer next year. And who knows what wonderful things you will do?
