On Friday, March 11, Madison Books hosted a book signing for Monticello Church of Christ Minister Pastor Nathan Peeler, who recently released From Dogs to Disciples: Matthew's Message of Inclusion for Outcasts. The event was well attended, and Peeler took time to explain his purpose for writing the book and to answer numerous questions from the audience.
“I wanted to leave something that would help others after I'm gone,” said Peeler.
Peeler expressed that his love for Matthew's gospel inspired him to focus on the theme of inclusion that appears throughout the book.
“We are all held to the same standard,” said Peeler. “We all have sins that need repenting of, and we all need grace, mercy and compassion.”
One of the more famous examples of inclusion in Matthew comes from chapter 15, where Jesus metaphorically refers to a Canaanite woman as a dog. After she protests that “even the dogs get to eat the crumbs from the Master's table,” Jesus compliments her faith and heals her on the spot. This story served as the inspiration for the book's title.
Anyone interested in purchasing Peeler's book can find it at Madison Used Books for $10, as well as numerous online outlets such as amazon.com, deward.com and walmart.com.
