The windows that front the historic Monticello Opera House currently showcase ornately decorated Christmas trees, thanks to ladies of the Magnolia Garden Circle of the Monticello Garden Club. Members Jan Munn (President), Dianne Braren (Treasurer), Tamara Heseltine, Anne Horton, Jennifer Mason, Pam Kelly and Linda Demott gave hours of their time on Thursday, Dec. 8, to make downstairs at the Monticello Opera House (MOH) bright with seasonal cheer. The transformation is just in time for the MOH Holiday Open House, to be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Two nine-foot-tall trees, donated this year by Pam and Barry Kelly, stand glistening with gilded bows, vintage bubble lights and glimmering, garden-themed ornaments purchased new this year by the Circle. One tree features large figurines of unique Christmas elves while the other is adorned with artistically handmade stockings. All together, the effect is both elegant and fun.
Guests at the Holiday Open House can get a close look at the finely crafted decorations and enjoy their favorite tunes while sipping a cup of cheer. As an added bonus, MOH will be raffling off two of the unique Victorian style stockings. Winners can choose their favorite out of 30 of the handcrafted stockings that are on display – a treasure to keep or to give to someone special.
The open house is included in the price of tickets to the Krickets and Currys Annual Christmas Concert, which begins the same night, Dec. 17, at 8 p.m. Tickets, with tiered pricing from $27 to $37, are available at monticellooperahouse.org or by calling (850) 997-4242.
For those who wish to do only the Holiday Open House, there's a $10 cover charge.
The Magnolia Garden Circle of the Monticello Garden Club meets on the third Monday of every month from September through May and welcomes new members. This community-minded interest group enjoys informational programs and time to talk with fellow gardeners at their lunchtime meetings. For membership information, send a text to Jan Munn at (850) 294-4076.
The Magnolia Garden Circle holds joint meetings with the Founder's Circle of the Monticello Garden Club twice a year to share information and plan a joint project. The Monticello Garden Club is affiliated with the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
