The group, MainStreet Monticello, organized and completed its beautification project on Sunday, August 9.
Several local volunteers gathered in the early morning to plant colorful flowers in the concrete planters stationed on the sidewalks around the downtown area.
The dogwood trees already growing in the planters were lifted and new soil was added, along with the selection of flowering plants.
Trash and debris, thrown carelessly on the ground by others, was also picked-up and collected from Dogwood, Jefferson and Cherry streets during the beautification project.
MainStreet Monticello encourages volunteer involvement and makes every effort to keep the public apprised on area happenings and events.
Volunteers, including MainStreet board members and friends, were: Kim and Angela Jones; Ramsey Revell Wheeler; Carol Revell; Dee Dee Kilkelly; Sandra Hood, president; and Amy McDaniel, volunteer coordinator.
