Malcolm Connell, “Pop,” age 83, of Monticello, Fla., passed away Monday, Nov. 08, 2021, at Archbold Medical Center. He was born on Feb. 21, 1938 in Monticello, Fla. to JW and Irene Hamlin Connell.
Malcolm was a graduate of Jefferson County High School. Throughout his career he worked with Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and then transferred to Monticello Police Department where he retired as a Captain.
Malcolm enjoyed camping, hunting, and spending time with family. He was known for cooking large Sunday meals for everyone that could make it. He looked forward to assisting with putting up the Christmas lights every year at the Flowers Bakery corporate office in Thomasville, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Hatcher Connell; his parents, JW Connell and Irene Hamlin Connell; brothers: James Walter “JW” Connell, Jr., Edwin Connell and Russel Connell; sisters: Faye Harris and Agnes Barrett.
He is survived by his son, Timothy Charles Connell; his daughter-in-law, Pennie Connell, of Boston, Ga.; granddaughter, Aerial Connell; great-granddaughter, Hadley Wilson, of Thomasville; sister, Charlotte McKeown, of Monticello, Fla.; brother, Richard Winston Connell, Sr., of Greenville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, including: Tommy McKeown, Sandy MacDonald, Gail Parramore, Myra Taylor, Lynette Connell Sirmon, Julie Connell Smith, Richard Winston Connell, Jr., James Hightower and Dale Hightower.
Pallbearers include Mark Sealy, Craig Dukes, Richard Connell, Bo Ferrel, Blake Burnette, Rueal Connell and Craig Burton, and honorary pallbearer and Richard Winston Connell, Sr.
Visitation was held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at Beggs Funeral Home, 485 E. Dogwood St., Monticello, FL.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 446 Hatchet Rd., Lamont, FL 32336. Pastor Greg Souders will officiate.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s association in Malcolm’s honor.
