
Marijuana group eyes another ballot initiative in 2026

By now, many county residents have probably received in their mail a petition from Smart and Safe Florida asking for the recipient’s signature to endorse a constitutional amendment legalizing the personal use of marijuana by adults.
Months after a similar measure was defeated at the polls, proponents of the legalization of recreational marijuana are reviving the effort, with a goal of putting the amendment back on the ballot in the 2026 mid elections.
The revised amendment proposal reportedly addresses certain of the criticisms leveled against the original amendment by opponents such as Gov. DeSantis.
