Mary and Sam Madison celebrate 60 years of marriage

Mary Madison Contributor Sam, Sr. and Mary Madison recognized 60 years of marriage on Nov. 5. The couple eloped to Valdosta, Ga., because Mary was underage (20) by Florida law. Sam was home on furlough from the U. S. Army for a few days and decided four years of engagement was long enough. The couple's connection began when Sam transitioned to Monticello from Tampa, where he was born, and Mary was transplanted here from Madison. Both lived in the Roostertown township. They attended and graduated from Howard Academy; are still active members of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church; and are longtime involved citizens. Mary is still very active in the community.
