Mary Jones Walker Connell, 91, passed away at her home in Waukeenah, Fla., on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 4, 2021, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 485 E. Dogwood St., Monticello. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021, at the Waukeenah United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Hush Walker Cemetery, 1850 Peter Brown Ln. Gifts in memory may be made to the Waukeenah United Methodist Church, 81 Methodist Church Rd., Monticello.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Waukeenah, a 1947 graduate of Monticello High School and a 1979 Accounting Graduate of Florida State University, where she retired as an Accountant Supervisor with 35 years of service to volunteer and travel. She was a faithful member and supporter of the Waukeenah United Methodist Church and Treasurer of 52 years, also serving in other capacities. She was a member of the Keystone Genealogical Society, Independent Telephone Pioneer Association, Order of the Eastern Star, LLL Club of the First Baptist Church of Monticello, Red Hat Society and Adventure Club. She was also a Tallahassee Senior Center Tax Counselor Volunteer for 18 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeanie Walker (Bob Langford); daughter-in-law, Donna Wiehaus; Glenn Walker III (Ashley); great-grandson, Glenn Elijah Walker IV and sister-in-law Hazel Jones. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 46 years, Glenn (Bunny) Walker, Sr.; son, Glenn (Buddy) Walker, Jr.; second husband of 26 years, Ken Connell; parents, George and Mary Jones; sisters, Essie Rhees, Verna Kelly, Novie Jones and Virginia Taylor; and brothers Henry, Hulon and Harvey Jones.
