Mayor recognizes retired educators for Black History Month

In keeping with her promise to honor the achievements of local African-Americans during Black History Month, Monticello Mayor Gloria Cox recently recognized the Jefferson County Retired Educators Association (JCREA) and one of its founders.
The brief ceremony took place toward the end of Monticello City Council meeting on Tuesday evening, Feb. 7.
Cox had two proclamations read aloud, one recognizing the achievements and contributions of the JCREA and the other, Willa Mae Seabrooks, one of the organization’s founding members and its first president.
