Meet your neighbor: Darcy Pitts

Pitts was born in Wisconsin and mostly raised in the Duluth area of Minnesota, where she lived until she moved to Jefferson County around 34 years ago. While on vacation, she met her future husband in Madison, Fla., and she ended up moving here to get married; his family was originally from Jefferson County. In the 1970s, an important event in Pitts' life occurred. She suffered life- threatening injuries from a head-on vehicle collision, during which metal impaled her head. Pitts was in a coma for about three weeks, and her survival was doubtful; at the very least, she was expected to have impaired mental capacity after the accide
