Shivanna Matos moved to Monticello from Gainesville about one year ago to join her fiancé, Jessie Martin. In Gainesville, Matos worked as a surgical technologist in the pediatric heart surgery center at Shands Hospital. After moving to Monticello, she joined the staff at Little Pine Pediatrics on Mulberry Street. She has many duties there but especially enjoys being the friendly smile that greets young patients when they arrive at the doctor's office and, when they leave, sending them off with a treat to end the visit with a smile as well.
The feeling of being a “family” with her colleagues at work is echoed throughout the life Matos is making for herself here. Monticello, she finds, is a welcoming and friendly community.
“It's very family oriented and close-knit,” she says. “Everyone is like family.”
Outside of work, Matos is an active member of the congregation at First Baptist Church of Monticello and appreciates time to hang out with her blended family, which includes four children: Antonio (14), Georgia (13), Vincent (7) and Tara (1 1/2). They enjoy outdoor activities, such as beach trips to St. George Island or fishing excursions down to Seven Bridges and other local recreation spots. She likes to shop at Soulshine Vintage and is becoming a regular at the new coffee shop, CowHaus. Whether busy at the clinic, worshipping in church or casting a line in a creek, Shivanna Matos is glad to be among her neighbors in Monticello.
