America will celebrate Memorial Day next Monday. With this holiday comes a day off from work, family gatherings, cook-outs, beach trips, a day outside, or just another day at work (depending on your job.)
No matter your plans for this upcoming celebration, please keep in mind WHY we have a national holiday, such as Memorial Day.
Memorial Day often just means a holiday to so many people; a day off work, to play and have fun. So many of us forget that the holiday is in honor of our U.S. soldiers who have died while in the military service. “America: The Land Of The Free” – Freedom doesn’t come free; our soldiers paid/are paying that price for us.
Memorial Day is a special day, set aside, for all of us to honor all our fallen heroes, in all branches of our U.S. military and to celebrate their bravery and sacrifice. These are the men and women we owe our respect to…past, present, and future. They are the ones that gave their lives for our freedom. It is vital to celebrate Memorial Day, year after year, because it is important to remember; and never forget.
So, I end this column with a big “Thank You” to all of our veterans, and the men and women currently serving in our military. If it were not for the wars of “yesteryear” and the soldiers who fought in them, we would not have the freedoms we take for granted today.
Furthermore, if it were not for our current military men and women, we would not be able to continue to enjoy these same freedoms.
Life is short – be respectful to one another and teach your children and grandchildren the importance of respecting each other, respecting our great country, our veterans and military heroes, and the importance of our American Flag. Respect is taught and learned; we all have to play a role.
God, Family and Country!
God Bless America!
