Michael Alan Colón of Monticello, Fla. was welcomed into his heavenly home on December 25, 2021, Christmas Day, his favorite day of the year after a fierce, but short battle with cancer. He was 56. He will be remembered for his joyous life, quick wit, beautiful smile, generous heart and deep faith in Jesus Christ. He had a vast love of nature, camping, dogs and living in the country.
Michael met his future wife, Rebecca, in Greensboro, Fla., where they were both volunteer firefighters. They wed and moved to Blairsville, Ga., before coming to Monticello. The couple built a house on 38 acres and Michael made numerous improvements to the property throughout the years. He took pride in having the property manicured, which he worked very hard at maintaining. He built a barn, workshop, gazebo and multiple fences for the horses. He also planted an apple orchard and hundreds of other trees. He was a terrific neighbor, helping where he could and bringing families together for holiday gatherings. He was an integral part of Rebecca’s family and loved as a son, brother and uncle by her parents, sisters, brother, nephews and niece. He worked in the family business, H. B. Sherman Traps, Inc., until his passing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Anne Colón; father, Angel Colón; stepmother, Angela Colón; sisters, Linda Shannon-Blackburn and Kimberly Abner; many nephews, nieces and in-laws. Preceded in death by his mother, Ailleen Drew Colón; brother, Charles Shannon II and father-in-law Gerald Phillips.
He will be sorely missed by the love of his life, Rebecca, as well as family members and numerous friends, but never forgotten. Having gone to his eternal home with the Lord on Christmas Day, we know he is singing and rejoicing with the angels at last. Welcome home, Michael.
A celebration of life is planned for a future date.
