Michael F. “Scooter” Duncan, of Monticello, Fla., passed away on Aug. 26, 2022, at home. He was born in Waycross, Ga., on Aug. 24, 1957.
He was the son of Harold and Peggy Duncan. Scooter graduated from Ware County High School in Waycross, Ga. After graduation he moved to Tallahassee, Fla., and attended Florida A&M University.
He met his future wife, Connie Williams (Thigpen), and they were married in 1977, and resided in Tallahassee, Fla. In 1983 they moved to Monticello, Fla., and raised their family there. He retired from the State of Florida, working in Legislative Services as a print technician in both the House and Senate Offices.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Duncan, and is survived by his mother, Peggy Duncan (Blackshear, Ga.); wife, Connie (Monticello); four children, Paul Duncan (Noel), Rosemary Robson (Chad), Jesse Duncan and Ben Duncan; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susan Duncan and Sarah Duncan; one brother, Steven (Anne); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Scooter and Connie were very involved in Tres Dias of North Florida for many years as well as Kairos Inside and Outside. They had a huge “family” of friends (brothers and sisters in Christ) through those ministries.
There are not enough words to describe all the people he knew and touched. He was a man of great wisdom and compassion. The “legacy” he leaves behind is one that the family will hold dear forever.
The family plan to hold a memorial service to celebrate his life at a future date (sorry, Connie, we all know it, but … no Viking Funeral after all), and all friends are welcome to join them to share all the humorous and heart-touching memories of all that he freely gave from his heart to all he knew and loved. The date for that time of coming together will be sent out in the near future.
