The third annual Monticello Christmas Lights Parade will be taking place on Dec. 4. The parade starts at 6 p.m., but the lineup is from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Christmas lights are required for all entries into the parade. This year they are welcoming golf carts/side by sides, which must be lighted with Christmas lights; live music, such as marching bands, carolers, etc.; Jingle walkers—strollers and wagons are welcomed for the kids—bring jingle bells, dress in Christmas colors, glow bracelets/necklaces or Christmas lights and farm animals—no dogs.
The parade also gives out the following awards: North Star Award, for best light display; Fruitcake Award, for most humorous Christmas display; Rudolph & Co. Award, for best animal entry (no dogs); Christmas Spirit Award, for entry with the most Christmas spirit; Jingle Bell Rock Award, for the best jingle bell entry and Tin Soldier Award, for the best walking entry.
Some rules and important information about the event are that all entries must have Christmas lights and be consistent with the Christmas theme; line up will be on Walnut Street at the County Offices (500 W. Walnut St.); no Santas, he will arrive at the end of the parade on a fire truck; no loudspeakers, bullhorns, etc.; Christmas music only may be played at a volume so as to not drown out other music and parade entries; due to COVID-19, no giveaways are to be given out, and you must be 18 years and over to drive a golf cart/side by side.
The parade will travel east on Walnut Street, cross over Highway 19 and then turn left onto Cherry Street. It will then cross over US 90 and continue on Cherry Street. The parade will end at Madison Street.
There is a $10 entry fee, which you must turn in with your entry form for the parade to Mainstreet of Monticello, PO Box 923 Monticello, Fla. 32345. They can also be dropped off at the Monticello-Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. Entry form and fee must be delivered no later than Nov. 28. Checks must be payable to Mainstreet of Monticello.
