Monticello Ecological Park now nationally recognized

The Monticello Ecological Park on South Water Street is now a nationally recognized old-growth forest, a designation that should provide it with further protection from development. On Tuesday evening, Dec. 5, city officials signed an agreement to have the park be a part of the Old-Growth Forest Network, a national organization whose stated mission is the preservation of ancient forests for the enjoyment of present and future generations. The Network accomplishes its mission by identifying at least one forest in every county in the United States that can be designated for inclusion in the program.
