
Monticello hires one of its own as city manager

Monticello has a new city manager, and it’s not David Schoeff, the candidate originally selected by the council.
After weeks of negotiations with Schoeff and financial demands by him that city officials weren’t willing to meet, the council in a special meeting on Monday, March 31, decided to offer the job to Kurt Mackiewicz, who currently serves as senior planner and was one of the three top choices for the job.
At the special council meeting on Monday, Councilman Brian Bachman, who earlier had been appointed by his colleagues to work with City Attorney Mitchell Herring in negotiating a contract with Schoeff, reported to the council t
