Monticello K-9 unit achieves certification

In early November, the Monticello Police Department (MPD) announced the launch of the city's very first official K-9 drug detection unit, as it added K-9s Loretta and Chops to their law-enforcement team. These dogs were made available through the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, who were looking to donate the siblings to a working K-9 program. Before this, Monticello had never before had a K-9 drug detection unit.
Over the last several months, Chops and Loretta, as well as their handlers, Officer Christian Lancaster and Lt. Alan Camper, respectively, have been hard at work training to achieve their certification. As of Monday, Jan. 27, both K-9s pass
