
Monticello Kiwanis Club celebrates 100 years of service

On May 3, 1925, the Kiwanis Club of Monticello met for the first time at Hotel Monticello. It became the 35th such club to be established in the state, served by elected officers President Scott Dilworth Clarke, Vice President D.H. Gilbert, Secretary and Treasurer William M. Scruggs, District Trustee R.L. Eaton, and Directors Paul R. Whitaker, W.F. Eaton, J.B. Brinson, Jr., C.R. Taylor and Thomas B. Bird. It was among the first of the community's service organizations, and the members were eager to get to work.
