A wonderful time was had celebrating National ‘See You at the Library’ day at the Jefferson County R. J. Bailar Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 5.
The hour began with prayer by Bill Snyder and ended with prayer by Pastor Charles Burney. We were honored to have County Manager Shannon Metty in attendance, Property Appraiser Angela Gray to sing “God Bless America” and Supervisor of Elections Michelle Milligan to sing “America the Beautiful.”
Two books were read during the story hour. The first, As You Grow by Kirk Cameron, is based on Galatians 5: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” The second book, Forgiveness by Cleo and Greg Duggan, is based on Proverbs 22: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
We then watched an eight-minute video on the history of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” a poem written by Francis Scott Key originally titled “Defense of Fort McHenry,” which ultimately became our national anthem.
The grand finale was watching a YouTube video of a seven-year-old girl crush the national anthem (full goosebumps)!
Thank you to everyone for coming out and being a part of this special movement called “BRAVE Story Hour” started by @bravebooks and @kirkcameron.
This amazing movement is helping to bring public libraries back to American and Christian values! Let’s keep this torch burning and continue to bring our country’s founding values back into public spaces! For more information, visit bravebooks.us.
