Good news; a new business has come to Monticello, and it might just make you feel better! Monticello native Marcus Roberts, PT, DPT, has just opened his own private physical therapy practice and began seeing new patients on Monday, Sept. 19. His practice, Monticello Physical Therapy & Wellness, will provide patients with a variety of wellness services on a part-time basis from the location of the Taylor Massage office located at 195 E. Dogwood St. in Monticello. For the time being, his practice will only be open on Mondays, utilizing the building while the massage parlor is closed.
Roberts has spent the last three years working for Big Oak Physical Therapy in Thomasville, and currently works as the Team Orthopedic Lead, where he sees primarily post-surgical, sport rehabilitation and geriatric patients. Roberts received his doctorate in 2019 and is licensed in both Florida and Georgia. While his work in Georgia is valuable, Roberts says his goal is to bring the same quality of physical therapy and wellness service options to Monticello, where he grew up and currently still lives.
“I've lived here my entire life,” says Roberts. “I've always wanted to be close to home, and I really enjoy doing physical therapy. I have really enjoyed working in Thomasville for a private practice, and I feel like since there is not a private practice here in Monticello, and I am a native of Monticello, it would be beneficial to open one up and serve the community. To be able to branch out a little and reach out to the people that live here locally.”
Roberts is still in the beginning stages of building his private practice here in Monticello, and plans to continue his work full time in Thomasville throughout the week in order to continue to serve patients in Georgia while he builds his practice in Florida. Things are well underway, says Roberts, who adds that a part of this process includes branching out so that his services are easily accessible for Monticello patients. “I'm in the process of filling out provider enrollment forms to be able to try and get in with some of the insurance companies that people are using around here,” says Roberts, who says that his services will include a wider variety of treatments, depending on the needs in the community.
The services currently offered by Roberts at the Monticello Physical Therapy & Wellness office include one-on-one sessions with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, post-surgical rehabilitation, orthopedic injuries rehabilitation, chronic pain cases, sports injuries rehabilitation, pediatrics, balance and fall prevention, Worker's Comp., and more. Roberts also plans to eventually branch out to include working with the local school systems to offer sports rehabilitation as well as injury prevention services for young athletes.
Roberts strives to make a difference in the lives of his patients. He regularly sees individuals who have suffered for years, and is eager to help make a significant impact in their lives. “There are patients who come in with chronic pain, where they have been dealing with pain for a long period of time and have been taking pain medication that doesn't seem to ever address the source of what is going on at a structural level,” he continues, saying that his goal is to have people come in for treatment and leave genuinely feeling better, and help put a stop to the desperate and endless cycles of pain medication use.
Roberts also understands that prevention techniques can be equally as beneficial to patients as rehabilitation can be, especially for those who live everyday in fear of a fall or of breaking a bone. So while he is highly dedicated to rehabilitation, he understands the equal importance of prevention therapy as well, and is eager to help patients live life comfortably and confidently, instead of in fear or worry. The overall wellness and wellbeing of his patients is Roberts' top priority, and that means being willing to tackle the harder aspects of the job, like long-term therapy needs and convincing people to make difficult lifestyle choices that will help with their conditions.
While Roberts has future plans to open his physical therapy office full time, he says that for now, he will start with part time as he builds his clientele. In addition to meeting new patients, he is focused also on meeting and making connections with local doctors, and looks forward to providing Monticello residents with local physical therapy and wellness options, so they can seek treatment without having to travel to Tallahassee or Thomasville and other areas for treatment.
Roberts and his wife, Courtney, have been married for four years and are expecting their first child. Their relatives own and operate M&R Construction and Siding, which has been in business for the last 15 years, and Roberts' parents have called Monticello home for their whole lives. Monticello Physical Therapy &Wellness is Roberts' way of giving back to his hometown, and providing fellow citizens with quality therapy services to ensure higher quality of life and overall wellbeing.
