Melinda Thompson of Monticello was shot and killed during a domestic dispute in Greeneville, Fla. last Friday.
Madison County Sheriff David Harper reports that on Friday, May 5, at 10:10 p.m. the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call regarding gun shots being fired, and a person was shot at 225 N.W. Greenville Pointe Trail in Greenville, Fla.
Madison County Deputy Keen was in close proximity to the location and arrived on the scene immediately.
Upon Deputy Keen’s arrival, he was summoned by a black male who took him to the exact apartment of the incident. Deputy Keen entered the apartment and observed a black female lying on the kitchen floor with a large amount of blood coming from her head. Deputy Keen found no signs of apparent life of the victim. Deputy Keen searched the apartment to ensure no additional threats existed. Madison County Emergency Medical Services arrived, and the victim, Melinda Thompson of Monticello, was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
Deputies on scene quickly learned that a domestic physical altercation occurred between the deceased, the father of her children, and another black female. All persons who were potentially involved in the incident, including the suspect, were secured for future questioning and statement. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Scene Unit was contacted and responded to assist with processing the scene.
Witnesses and potential suspects were taken to the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigative Unit’s office, where Investigator Brannon conducted interviews. The suspect involved in the incident disclosed to Investigator Brannon that she had fired the pistol that struck the deceased.
Investigator Brannon placed Sharon Carter Anderson, born Oct. 31, 1994, of Greenville Fla., under arrest for murder without premeditation and she was transported to the Madison County Jail without incident.
This case is open with continued investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
