The April 13 celebration of Monticello's Second Saturday was certainly one for the books, with a special '80s theme. Residents and visitors were encouraged to get dressed up in their very best ‘80s outfits, complete with bright, neon colors, throwback tunes and special trivia! Despite the heat, enthusiastic participants donned hairspray, suits, jumpers, leg warmers, head bands and tulle skirts to enjoy an evening of vendors, karaoke and even a scavenger hunt!
The 1980s are credited with totally rad iconic accessories, and if you were lucky, you got a chance to see a few of them Saturday! Folks enjoyed taking photos with a boombox, a brick mobile phone and several awesomely decked out shop owners and members of the public. CowHaus Coffee Co. hosted an awesome night of fun ‘80s karaoke. Etched in Time hosted a series of ‘80s and couple's trivia games, with winners receiving special trophy awards made by Etched in Time.
The Social hosted several corn-hole games, and Starling Musings hosted a live sketch booth. Skinnie P's BBQ was present in town, dishing out delicious free dinners to members of the public, and local Sheriff Mac McNeill was present as well to enjoy the festivities. There were many vendors that showed up, including Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA), Old Fields Woodshop, MW Crafts, Gloria's Jewelry and Accessories, and more. There were plenty of ‘80s hits being played by various storefronts, as well as special tunes offered by DJ Oby Graham, who owns DJS TO GO. There was even a stroller of puppies that was pushed around town, enticing many to enjoy a cuddly canine snuggle while they looked for their new forever homes!
May Second Saturday will be held on May 11, and will be the final Second Saturday celebration until September, making room for the upcoming Watermelon Festival in June and the incoming summer heat during the later summer months. The theme for May is going to be Mothers Day and a “Cool Cars/Greasers” theme. For those who missed out on the fun this month, mark your calendars, because the next Second Saturday is just a month away! Anyone wishing to become a vendor can contact Crystal at (850) 518-5497.
