Chief Fred Mosley of the Monticello Police Department (MPD) handed a set of patrol car keys over to Chief Austin Malloy of the Monticello Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) on Monday, Feb. 27. The car, a 2011 Crown Victoria, had been serving the MPD since it was brand new. Now it is being surplussed and its title transferred to the Monticello VFD so that it can continue to serve city residents in a new capacity.
“We'll be using it as a quick response vehicle,” said Chief Malloy as he held the keys, “in order to assist with emergency medical response and quick scene assessment of certain scenes while units are oncoming.”
The black and white patrol car will be painted over in firehouse red, with striping and different lights added to mark it as a fire department vehicle.
“I am happy to be able to help our citizens,” said Chief Mosley, who has given the fire department other vehicles in the past.
