Mulch in the forest and in the garden

Throughout this dry fall, I find myself kicking around the woods observing the shrubs and trees that are stressed from this prolonged drought. Many trees didn’t really have much color. The leaves turned brown and fell fast.
The amount of mulch on the forest floor accumulated fast. I do have fire anxiety. Without rain, all those leaves and needles are fuel. A good heavy rain is what is needed to start the rotting and soil building process. The vast fungal mycelial
