Waukeenah United Methodist Church (UMC) held its annual September Mullet Fish Fry fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 13.
The evening meal was served from 5 to 8 p.m. but the members and cooks were at the church preparing since early morning, preparing the meal supplies and prepping the kitchens for a day of cooking.
The church's menfolk fried 500 pounds of mullet and hushpuppies for to-go dinners and stay-and-eat dinners — most of the guests stayed to enjoy their meal with friends and neighbors. There was lots of room and plenty of great Christian fellowship.
A total of 363 fish dinners were served, and 100 percent of the funds raised through this event will go to the Lynn Haven Methodist Church's hurricane relief fund for its mission work.
The Waukeenah UMC church is located at 81 Methodist Church Rd., just off Waukeenah Highway at Highway 27. Another Mullet Fish Fry has been scheduled for Friday evening, Oct 11; same time, same place, same great food and Christian fellowship.
The community is again invited to come out to the church to enjoy fried mullet, hush puppies, cheese grits, baked beans, coleslaw, pickles, home-cooked desserts and sweet iced tea.
