Nancy Lee Shiver, 68, who loved to be called “Mom” by her children and “Nanny/Grandma” by her grandchildren, departed from her loving family on Nov.6, 2021 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Nancy was born in Orlando, Fla. on March 9, 1953 to Austin Eaton and Eunice Durio.
Nancy was the mother of Kenneth, Tracie, and Alicia; she raised her children with love and devotion in Monticello with her faithful husband, Larry, of 51 years. Together Larry and Nancy share seven grandchildren. Nancy loved being a grandmother and took on the name “Nanny” because her father nicknamed her “Nanny Goat” when she was young.
Her hobbies included researching genealogy, crafting, metal detecting, looking for Indian artifacts, glass bottles, and antiques. She enjoyed riding in the woods, listening to waves at the beach, playing card games, bingo, going to the casino to play the slot machines, preparing meals for her family, and teaching that art to her grandchildren. She was able to take a piece of ham, some beans, and rice and manage to feed her entire family. She was most proud of learning, through her research, that she was a 7th generation Florida pioneer and getting her and her family registered as such.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Austin Eaton and Eunice Canada Durio; brothers: Alvin Eaton, Wayne Eaton, Lynn Eaton, and Bruce Eaton; and granddaughter, Hayley Grantham.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Larry Dean Shiver, of Monticello, Fla.; children: Kenneth L. Shiver (Amanda), of Cottondale, Fla.; Tracie E. Grantham (Perry), of Monticello, Fla.; Alicia Cain (Shay), of Monticello, Fla.; grandchildren: Taylor Jones, Gracie Shiver, Bailey Cain, Addison Cain, Perry Grantham, III and Jesse Grantham; and sister, Glenna M. Lau (Tom), of Titusville, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at Beggs Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Christmas Cemetery, in Christmas, Fla. Date and times will be announced at a later time. Nancy will also share a Celebration of Life with her brother, who passed eight days prior, on Nov. 20, 2021, in Christmas, Fla.
