No money for courthouse restoration this session

Jefferson County didn’t get the $1.3 million that it was seeking from the Florida Legislature during the current session for the renovation and restoration of the historic courthouse.
Interim Clerk of Court Jason Welty, who with Commissioner Chris Tuten, County Manager Shannon Metty and other local officials pushed for the funding, reported to the commission on Thursday morning, March 7, that the lobbying effort had proven unsuccessful.
Local officials aren’t giving up on the ask, however. They plan to return to the legislature next year to request the funding again.
