On Saturday, Feb. 11, the Jefferson Arts Gallery was filled with careful concentration as children gathered in the studio classroom for a Valentine Workshop, just in time for the much-anticipated holiday of love. Although this year's workshop saw a modest turn out, the three girls who attended the event were hard at work, following the instructor's gentle guidance to create the perfect personalized Valentine's Day gift.
Starting at 10 a.m., the kids were encouraged to design and create their very own versions of painted ceramic heart wind chimes or hanging ornaments that they were able to take home and give to a loved one. With painstaking concentration, each girl carefully painted a design on their ceramic heart shapes, beaded the beads of their choice, and tied strong knots to hold everything together. The resulting gifts were thoughtful, unique and personalized, as each girl had a person in mind to give theirs to.
Gretchen Brown was the first to complete her Valentine's Day project, which she revealed was a special gift for her Gigi. She had even finished a small ornament that she said was a gift for Honey.
As she carefully tucked her tinkling gifts away in a festive box for safe-keeping, Olivia Futrell was hard at work putting the finishing knots in her own projects, which she revealed were going to be a gift for her mom. Kiley Gauvin carefully attached beads and held her project up for her instructor to snip the excess wire free, ensuring her gift was neat and clean, as it was a birthday gift for her brother, who Kiley mentioned had a birthday coming up in just two days!
The charming tinkle of ceramic ornaments filled the quiet room as the young ladies finished up their gifts, wrapping them up in little boxes to be given to their loved ones. As the children wrapped up their workshop fun, love and creativity was certainly in the air!
