Officials prepare to reimpose three annual assessments

In quick succession, the Jefferson County Commission recently adopted three preliminary resolutions that set the stage for the reimposition of two special assessments that apply to nearly all county residents and a third that applies only to residents of the Aucilla Shores subdivision.
The first preliminary resolution that the commission approved on Thursday morning, July 18, represented the first step in the reimposition of the special assessment that funds the county’s fire department. The assessment rate for the coming fiscal year, which goes into effect Oct. 1, is $198 for residential units and four-cents-per-square-foot for non-residential or co
