Ollie Dell Alexander Minton Parrish was born on Sunday, Feb. 17, 1935, to the late Willie Bradford Alexander Sr. and the late Inez Ross-Alexander in Jefferson County. She and her two brothers (Willie Jr. and Albert) were raised by their great aunt, Clyde Sneed (Albert) Wilson after the death of their mother in Tallahassee, Fla. Ollie Dell was converted at an early age and worshipped at Greater Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Fla. She attended Griffin High and the Manpower Program of Florida A & M University, graduating with a Certificate in "Seamstress."
On Sunday, Jan. 7, 1951, Ollie Dell married Henry Milton and then moved to Monticello. They were the proud parents of Juanita Marie Minton Crumity, their only child. She served at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the role of "Mother" (active in Sunday school and other programs).
Ollie Dell was a domestic engineer, then worked at the "Pajama Factory" in Quitman, Ga., was a Jefferson County School Bus Driver for thirty-seven years (bus numbers 59, 31 and 11) and worked part-time for Sloan Funeral Home.
My mother loved rural life! She could work in her yard planting flowers, trimming/cutting trees using her zero turn and planting her vegetables garden. Her yard had to be kept as close to perfect as possible. She was a farmer at heart; nothing was too hard for her to tackle. In her fun time, she loved playing the card game "Whiskey." Ms. Ollie Dell was the founder of "The Quinn's Women Club" in the Dills Community. This was a very active club that provided Home/Health assistance in three connecting communities for the elderly through grants.
Early Saturday morning, May 28, 2022, at 3:15 a.m., my dear mama received a call from Heaven, and when the Angels arrived, as much as she loved her baby girl, grand babies and great grands, she never looked back. She's at peace and now watching over us.
