Hello neighbors,
By now you’ve received your Official Primary Ballot from Supervisor of Elections Tyler McNeill. Please take it seriously and take it to heart, and do not vote just for political party, or out of personal allegiance; vote for the benefit of the students and, by extension, our county.
As you may or may not know, Jefferson County has reclaimed the school district thanks to Superintendent Tricquet. I’ve been to several school board meetings and to the candidate debate. I sincerely believe that after the failed five-year charter school experiment and the prior years of decline under this too long-tenured board, the county has the school district back despite the present board, not because of them. At one of the board meetings, FDLOE made clear to the board that they lost the district and that it is time they step aside.
Please vote for fresh faces with fresh ideas. We’ve all got skin in this game whether we’ve got children in the schools or not. An educated citizenry attracts prosperity and discourages crime. A healthy school system is the hub of a small rural community. The future of these students depends on a board that will support the Superintendent, acknowledge her expertise and ability to recruit the best in the state to Jefferson County. They should step aside for the greater good.
That, my friends, would actually put the children first. Vote now.
Thank You,
George Fernandez
