In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many groups around town will be holding special events in October to – in the words of the National Breast Cancer Foundation – “RISE to ensure every woman has access to the screenings she needs and the support she deserves.”
For the week of Oct. 11-14, Florida Health-Jefferson County, The Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, Oh Happy Day Gifts and Experience Monticello are joining forces to offer a range of daily activities to raise awareness and show support.
* On Tuesday, Oct. 11, you can go to Oh Happy Day Gifts (315 N. Jefferson St.) at 10 a.m. to paint rocks with Breast Cancer Awareness messages. Then go out and hide them for others to discover!
* On Wednesday, Oct. 12, you can wear some pink clothes/accessories and meet up at Oh Happy Day Gifts (315 N. Jefferson St.) at 10 a.m. to walk around town to show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
* On Thursday, Oct. 13, there are two events. First: visit one of the lemonade stands set up around town. Enjoy some pink lemonade to show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Next: Florida Department of Health Jefferson, located at 1255 W. Washington St., is having a special event from 3 to 6 p.m., including a mobile mammogram unit.
* On Friday, Oct. 14, a Breast Cancer Hero's tree will be set up at Oh Happy Day Gifts (315 N. Jefferson St.). You can drop by and add a ribbon or card to the tree in honor of someone who has or had breast cancer.
