Part of SR-59 officially renamed Haynes Memorial Highway

A portion of State Road 59 in Jefferson County was officially renamed after a military hero last week, one of nearly 200 new laws from the last legislative session that went into effect on Monday, July 1. The renamed portion of SR-59, now officially designated as the Major John Leroy Haynes Memorial Highway, runs between US-90 on the north and US-27 on the south. Haynes, a retired U.S. Marine and longtime Jefferson County resident, died in November 2023 at the age of 93, prompting local officials to petition the Florida Legislature to rename the portion of SR-59 in his honor.
