Charles Richard Jones went to his heavenly home of rest to live forever with his Lord and Savior after a sudden death from a stroke and brain bleed on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. He was dearly loved by all his family and friends.
“Pastor Richard” (as he was commonly known by many) is survived by his wife, Gail Christy-Jones, of 30 years, his son, Mike Jones (Monica), daughter, Elaine Jones Cawvey (Mark), brother-in-law, Ron Drake, grandson, Mikell Reid (Lisa), great-grandchildren, Summer and Mikell II, his sister, Linda Smysor and sister-in-law Joyce Ann Jones. He was “Uncle Dickie” to numerous nephews and nieces and many other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Jones Poole, brothers, Clark Jones and Fred Jones (Jeanne), sister, Joyce (Walter Jacobs), father, Rannell Luther Jones and mother, Bessie Jewel Minix Jones.
Richard graduated with a 4-year degree in Social Work from Florida State University and a 5-year certificate from Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
He served faithfully 44 years as a full time and part-time Local Pastor of the Florida Conference United Methodist Church in the following United Methodist Churches: Bethel, Lake City; Micanopy Circuit, first, Deltona; First, Brandon; Waukeenah/Wacissa Charge; Wakulla, East Point/St. George Island Charge; Lamont; Waukeenah, Woodville, Pisgah, Sardis and Forest Hills. After full retirement, he served as Pastor Emeritus of the Waukeenah United Methodist Church until his death.
He loved to preach about his Lord and Savior and never met a stranger. He enjoyed time with family, travel with his wife and friends, preaching and singing and listening to Gospel Music.
He was proud to serve his country in the Navy for 4 years of full-time active duty on the USS Charles P. Cecil and the Naval Reserve for 8 years. He currently served as Chaplain of the American Legion Post 49 in Monticello.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at Waukeenah United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to service. Burial will follow at Waukeenah Cemetery.
