Rev. Gloria A. Cox has been involved in ministry for over 40 years.
For Rev. Cox, being involved in ministry is a driving passion for her that keeps her focused daily in scripture and prayer. She has fond memories of being "out in the vineyard," seeking the lost and aiding churches in Atlanta, Ga., Allendale, S.C. and Albany, Ga.
In her many years of ministry, Rev. Cox not only evangelized but helped churches to be sustained through entrepreneurial ministries in real estate and a wholesale bakery.
Upon retiring and returning home to Monticello in 2003, from Atlanta, Ga., the love for Christ continued in her ministry. In honor of her deceased parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh R. Cox, she established "Feed the Elderly Meals" with community volunteers. Rev. Cox's organization prepares and delivers meals to the elderly and provides Thanksgiving dinners.
Rev. Cox served at the Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Melvin Roberts and at Saint Phillip African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, under the direction of Rev. J.W. Tisdale. She continues her relationship with both churches, as she serves as a vacation bible school teacher, Sunday school teacher, ministerial communion team member, and assists with public relations.
Rev. Cox can also be found on a variety of other committees for her churches.
Rev. Cox earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Marketing Management from Western Governors University and is in the second year of her Master's of Divinity degree at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
In March of 2016, Rev. Cox was appointed as the senior pastor of the Springfield A.M.E Church, in Monticello, where she continues to serve today proudly.
Planting churches, with a focus on encouragement on building and training, is just one of the missions of Rev. Cox.
Pastor Cox has two sons, Bishop Chancey D. King, Sr. and Apostle Anthony J. Cox, Sr., who have churches in the Atlanta, Ga. area. She has eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She is employed by Jefferson Somerset and is a city councilwoman, for Monticello's Group 2.
