Monticello News and our church base community want to recognize and welcome Elizabeth Baptist Church's new preacher, Glenn Canup. He believes that God may be calling him to serve as the Lead Pastor of a local church. His goal is to lead a local body of believers to effectively carry out the Great Commission to make disciples of all ages and nations.
Canup was born in Riverdale, Ga., on April 26, 1976. He is married to his wonderful wife, Linda Marie Mason, and has two exceptional children, Alistair Bill and Lydia Nicole. Canup's wife graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She has been employed with In Touch Ministries since 2003 and, in 2017, became their Digital Content Strategist.
Being raised in the church until 13, Canup didn't have a real personal relationship with Christ. After a significant vehicle accident when he was 16, his eyes were open to the Lord. Four months after his 16 birthday, Canup was in a car crash where he could have passed. His father showed up on the accident scene and told Canup, “God was watching over you and had a plan for you; that is why you are still here, my son.”
A few weeks after the accident, Canup was invited to a “Back-To-School” lock-in. The opening band to start the event asked if anyone in the crowd wanted to turn their life over to Christ. That was his sign. That night he opened his heart and arms to the invitation of the Lord, and it changed Canup from then on out. A night of what he thought to be just fun and good times with his friends, opened so many more doors to make him who he is now. Four months after the lock-in, Canup answered his calling to dedicate his life to vocational ministry. He still looks back to the day of the accident and thinks of his father's words, God spared you for a reason.
Canup furthered his education after high school, graduating with an Associates in Art from Truett-McConnell University and continued all the way to getting a Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary.
