As part of his recent executive summary to the Monticello City Council, Police Chief Fred Mosley informed the board that his department was taking proactive steps to get ahead of potential crime.
Mosley told the council on Tuesday, Dec. 7, that he had been meeting with residents concerned about abandoned properties in their neighborhoods.
“People are going into vacant properties and damaging windows and sometimes inhabiting them,” Mosley said. “We’re trying to help property owners help themselves.”
Mosley, however, didn’t go into details in his oral report as to how property owners were being instructed to help themselves.
In terms of younger offenders, Mosley said that his department was seeing a notable rise in juvenile crime.
He said his department was going back a year to see what juveniles had come in contact with law-enforcement and addressing any issues before the problem grew bigger.
“I will be getting with the state attorney and city attorney to see how we can proceed,” Mosley said.
Otherwise, he said, the rest of his department’s activities were contained in his executive summary.
