Ponderings…Finding hope
My parents were far from perfect. There are a great many things about my childhood that shouldn't have happened the way that they did, and in some ways, I'll spend the rest of my life unweaving the psychological tangles certain chapters of my life left me in. However, forgiving their human shortcomings has been the biggest, most consuming act of love I will ever achieve, and as an adult, I can see even their most egregious mistakes and wrongdoings with stinging empathy, holding places for their misled intentions and pitfalls with understanding and respectful awe. They tried their best, and while they got some things very, very wrong, they got a lot right, too.
