The Winter Solstice has officially come and gone. I've rambled about the significance of this time in the past, but for those who don't know, the word “solstice” is derived from two Latin words meaning “sun” and “to stand still.” There are two solstices, a winter solstice and a summer one. The summer solstice occurs for our northern hemisphere in June, and is the longest day of the year, marking the official start of summer. The winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year, marking the official start of winter.
