Sunday, Aug. 29 saw the second United States Postal Service rate increase this year. The rate increase only impacts “market dominant” products such as first class mail letters, post cards and mailing services. Package services like First Class Package Service and Priority Mail are not affected by the rate change.
The rate for a one-ounce first class mail letter increased to $.058, a three-cent increase from the current rate. Each additional ounce will continue to cost $0.20. Post card postage increased to $0.40, four cents higher than the previous rate. Flat/large envelopes -- one ounce, increased from $1 to $1.16. Certified mail rates rose from $3.60 to $3.75 and Certified Mail Restricted Delivery rates increased to $9.75.
